[HoE] RE: Dr. Pepper (Getting Off-Topic now, I'm afraid)

Hi, all:

Now, where the term "Liquid Cancer" is mentioned there must be mention of
Shasta. I know they still make this in limited quantities, but for those
of you unfamiliar with it it was the first soda that ever had a warning
that it was linked to cancer in laboratory rats, and in later years the
warning simply read "Prolonged Shasta consumption has been linked with
cancer." I remember this stuff from when I was a kid, because no one would
ever buy this stuff in my old hometown (Quick Quiz time: It was the Black
Lung capital of America in the 30s. Anybody know what town I speak of?)
and stores would donate it to the nursing home, so every time I went to
visit my grandmother there she'd have two to three cartons of it she'd give
to me, and I'd have to drink at least six cans in her presence; I sometimes
wonder if it was responsible for the tumor they took out of me when I was
eighteen . . .

And let's not forget Cherokee Red, the politically-incorrect, taste of
paint stripper soda.
