Just modify a pistol wouldn't be that hard if you've got a willing junker
on hand.

You would have to take the powder out and remove everything except for the
ferrous metal part that will actually hit the target.

3,000 bucks seems a little steep to me, but then again what do I know?

Not really that hard to come by 'cause all you really need is a round ball
of ferous metal about the right size for your barrel

Gauss, since it is fired using magnetics does not use shell casings.
