[HoE] Coup
I had an idea last night -- actually, I dreamed it -- for a different way of
handling Coups in Hell on Earth. Let me know what y'all think of it. The idea
is to keep Coups that the group has earned in the group, but at the cost of a
certain amount of creepiness and theological problems.
If a character has a Coup, and that PC dies, a grey-white energy comes out of
the body -- and the living PCs roll for getting a Coup, as normal. The
"winner" gets all the Coups of the PC who died, but picks up some Taint -- a
Hindrance of that the dead PC had, perhaps. This is because the dead PC's soul
is trapped in the living character's body! The soul-taint of the Coup provided
the "hook" that allowed this to happen.
Especially sadistic Marshalls may want to have a Dominion-like situation
evolve from this, but I think the above is creepy enough. And when the
character who got the "Coup" dies, *both* souls are freed, and rolled for
seperately by the remaining PCs. (Once the PCs understand what's going on,
they should have the option of not rolling, so they can *choose* to let Old
Zeb's soul go on to its proper reward...)
