the existence of a mad science paper clip (one shudders to think how that

fully capable in pure science as well, that not everything their busy little

Well I can't speak for offical rules but we did deal with this in our DL
game. I was a gunsmith (Trade: Gumsmith 5) as well as a madscientist, and I
learned to deal with the maitou induced designs after I nearly blew my own
head off trying to build a gattling shotgun. But the only reason I was able
to figure out why it didn't work was because I new the normal science about
guns.
So, what I think happens with madscientists is that they get an idea (say
for a Gattling Shotgun) and the maitou drops the plans full formed into his
mind. So while he has some idea (based on what ever real science skills he
has) of what he is doing, for the most part he is just building from a
complete image sort of like a do it yourself kit.

Hope this helps
