just something I do, here, but you Marshals might find it handy, and you 
gamers might wanna lobby for it.

In my games, I offer players the chance to forever record their exploits in 
a journal.  If they do this, I bribe them will a jolly, candylike White 
Chip to add to their pull.  This is in addition to any other stuff they get 
chips for, like Favored or Luck o' The Irish.

I generally have had good feedback from it, and in games where players have 
done it there have been excellent NPC recollections.

Contrary to what you might think, not everyone does a Journal with this 
bribery.  I run three Deadlands games.  In one, two of five players do 
journals regularly, one does a journal occasionally.  In a second game of 
seven players, we have one who does a journal occasionally.  I also run a 
hell on earth game where no one of five writes journals.

Still, its an option, and one I have found to be quite workable.  I do like 
that given that the reward is small (a white chip) it does not penalize 
those who lack the time for a journal.

just a thought, a marshalling technique which the majority of my players 
seem to appreciate.
