You could avoid that by placing Time Travelers outside the scope of changes...
anyone not in their native time is unaffected, but other peoples memories of
them are. This allows the PCs to cause all sorts of chaos but worry about
themselves disapearing. Of course, they would have to clean up teh mess they
made and chaos theory stops them predicting what the future will be like. Even
breathing in the past could screw everything up.

This is probably teh best way, though it does require a bit more work on the
GMs part to do teh little forshadowing things. After doing this a bit, they
might realise that time travel to change the past isn't such a good idea after
all.
