Try "ether". As in "ethereal plane" from AD&D. Same stuff. PEG is probably
using an archaic spelling or just trying to sound mysterious/cute.

Not to slam too badly on PEG, but there are much worse typesetting/proofing
errors in Junkman than "aethiferous". However, of all the RPG companies
I've seen, PEG is the most sensitive about typos/errors and goes farther
than any other company I've seen to try and fix them.
