[HoE] The perception of truth

>>Unless the Agency and Rangers have total control
over their respective
nations, the info will get out, especially over the
full 200 years between
DL and HoE. The lid just can't be kept on the secret
that totally. I love
both games. I've been running DL for years.
Unfortunately, I think this
(how the secret has been kept) is one place PEG hasn't
given us a plausible
explanation.

Yes, the info will get out, but will the people
believe it? Remember, perception is important. We've
all heard crazy tales of Alien abduction, Psychic
powers, and other things. Do we believe them, because
someone says they're so?

Of course not. Like the trickster in H&H says "People
see what they believe, not the other way around."
That thing you just saw; was it a monster? No, it
couldn't be, it's just a trick of the light. Did fire
come from that man's hand? No, he probably had a gun
in his hand.

For the most part, I think people would disbelieve the
strangeness that surrounds them. And the reckoners
would want it that way; people don't become
desensitised to the fear and evil that surrounds them.

Those people who come to know and understand the
truth, they're the ones that the Agency comes down on.
They can explain it all away to the non-believers.
