[HoE] Something About a Sword review/spoiler/complaints
Spoiler space . . .
I have to say I found this to be possibly the weakest PEG book I've picked up
to date, and certainly the worst of the scenarios. Maybe all the excellent
John Goff scenarios to date have raised the bar too high, but this one just
didn't work for me.
I think the big part was there really didn't seem to be any horror in it. The
party
does some investigating, has a few minor skirmishes with mutants, then has
a big fight with some robots. No real tension, no real sense of impending
doom,
none of the normal hallmarks of Deadlands or HOE. It actually felt much more
like a D&D module. Heck, the "prize" is a really powerful magic sword and the
party doesn't even have to fight anyone to get it.
I know the list has talked a fair amount about what the "tone" of HOE is
supposed to be, and Mr. Hopler has given us some sense of where he and Mr.
Goff would like to take things. I'm just hoping this book slipped in under the
radar and is not indicative of things to come.
Just my two cents worth.
