If he walks up to you, you can still use the sleeve card to move away.

If he attacks you, though, you need to make the fighin roll to vamoose, or
you get skewered....

That's why you need to "interrupt" the entire action before he moves.  The
combat system is segmented enough to warrant further breaking each action
cards down...
