actually, as far as i recall, humans had "funky abilities" before the
reckoning, they just weren't as strong, because the shamans were blocking
most easy access to the hunting grounds. otherwise, how would hoyle have
made his hexes work? once the last sons whacked the shamans, the way was
opened for strong powers to manifest.
