Re: [HoE] One small complaint.... (SHANE)
Sorry to chime in with a "me too" complaint, but I feel that Mr. Davis
has a valid point. The 'pop culture references' are both distracting and
disturbing. I will confess that, upon reading about Silas's vegetable
garden, I found myself doing something I've only done once before in my
life -- I threw the book across the room. (The last time that happened
was a decade ago.) For the first time, I felt I'd wasted money on
a PEGInc product.
I love Deadlands with a Passion (Vestrial, for the ED fans out there) and have
been running the game almost continuously since it came out; In addition, I
was one of those annoying folks who called Pinnacle to order the special Hell
On Earth kits before they were ready to take the orders. :-) Hell On Earth has
a great deal of promise. The Wasted West, Brainburners, and Children of the
Atom built on that promise quite well, but Road Warriors was a very decided
disappointment.
Granted - the line between "camp" and "cheese" is a fine one, and I trust
that the good folks in Virginia will take comments such as Mr. Davis's
(and mine) as "constructive criticism" rather than an outright condemnation
when that line is crossed.
