Re: [HoE] Good HOE Music WAS: Toxic Tunes?
Any dark industrial stuff would be good. Ministry... Skinny Puppy.
There's also some freaky stuff on the Brutal Planet CD. Hard to find. It
is a sound effects CD for haunted houses, but it has some "heavy-metal" type
music that starts off with a post apocalyptic type static thing.
Also the CD "Love" by The Cult has some interesting rock... also "Electric"
and their other albums have good tunes. The song "Brother Wolf, Sister
Moon" would be a great theme song for an Old Ways Brave in either HoE or
Deadlands.
Also soundtracks can be great. The soundtrack for Maximum Overdrive (also
known as AC/DC's Who Made Who) is a pretty hard rockin' collection. The
Soundtrack for Conan the Barbarian "I picture being in Denver surrounded by
automatons when I hear the "Anvil of Crom" from this soundtrack) and Mad Max
beyond Thunderdome will have some good scores. For a freaky one get "The
Truth and the Light: Music from the X-Files" by Mark Snow. Of course it has
sound bites of Mulder and Scully and some others in there... but truly
freaky music. If you have a rather bloodthirsty party then you can play
lots of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. "Murder Ballads" is a particularly
dark album. I have a gunslinger named Crow Jane in Great Rail Wars thanks
to that album. There are some good tunes on the soundtrack to "Natural Born
Killers" as well as "Dusk til Dawn" and "Desperado" good music for the south
or south-west.
The Tank Girl soundtrack has some good tunes on it as well. The song
"Ripper Soul" by Stomp would be great for an Urban Tribe encounter. In fact
most of what Stomp does would be good for that. The soundtrack from Crow:
City of Angels would also probably be good, if you like it, which I
didn't...
David Bowie's "The Heart's Filthy Lesson" and anything off of Nine Inch
Nails "Pretty Hate Machine" would be great for dark techno-industrial stuff.
For a more classic rock flavor you hit the nail on the head with Blue Oyster
Cult, but don't forget songs like Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath", Bob
Seger's "Turn the Page", and other such classics.
Also on the Blues Brothers 2000 soundtrack are three tunes that could be
excellent for Hell on Earth (or even Deadlands for that matter...) They do
"(Ghost) Riders in the Sky", "Season of the Witch" with a real bluesy New
Orleans sound, and "John the Revelator" perfect for when your party stumbles
into a tent revival session (think of the possibilities...)
Just my 2 cents.
