I *definitely* did start from the beginning. I owned the softback, waited
for Q&tD, waited even longer for BotD...
The basic game mechanics have remained unchanged. They've only made minor
tweaks (like fannin, autos, shotguns, chips instead of bounty) which amount
to 2 or 3 pages out of the hundreds of pages that they have produced. I
applaud PEG for constantly re-evaluating the game and making it work better.
Compare this to a company like TSR that constantly contradicts itself,
supplement to supplement, or a company like White Wolf who puts out a first
edition as practically a play-test version...
Plus, none of the changes that PEG have made were totally necessary. The
game worked perfectly "out of the chute" if anything Shane and CO. are a
bunch of worry warts who are constantly trying to make the game we love a
bit better.
The only thing they are doing better for HoE is getting the product out the
door in a timely, consistent manner. Deadlands took a year and a half to
get the first four books out. They have done it for HoE in 7 months...
