Just had a funny thought. Now, after the big bang, enough doctors,
surgeons, nurses, etc. would survive that, sooner or later, they would
get together and make some sort of school.  Now the problem with post
apocalyptic medicine is that you don't have anything that the modern
doctor relies on to diagnose and treat patients.  Besides which, most
town doctors or field medics can't lug an x-ray machine.  So what are
these doctors to do? Simple.
Use magic to compensate for the lack of equipment and drugs.
With all the sykers, doomsayers, witches, etc. floating around the
west, some enterprising doctor eventually would decide to study the
black arts. Considering the rarity of clean drugs and medical
equipment, being able to make a Healing Poultice or to Aura Read would
be the best way to keep survivors kicking.

Now Mrs. Smith, there's no need to worry.  Based on the impurities in
your aura, and the portents I saw in your chicken's entrails, I've
feel that all you have is an especially strong case of chicken pox. 
I'm prescribing you some medicine.  Take one pill in the morning, one
at lunch, and then light this insense, and spin around three times at
dinner.  Oh, and make sure wear these feathers in your hair.
