Right,  I had thought of that - but then I looked at the game mechanics.  The average for 2d12 is approx. 14 - that is two wound levels - that's sissy girlie-man damage not even strong enough to cause bleeding.  It doesn't reflect having a centimeter or so wide hole blown clean through your body.  
Having overpenetration happen when either die is a 12 at least means that your average is going to cause 3 wound levels when an overpenetration happens.

There's lot of precise calculations.  You could walk right into a Starrion, bounce to close to a Chevy Nova, and that would end your trip real fast
