RE: [HoE] Cities with subway systems
The Bay Area, Shan Fran has BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Its a light rail
system but it does run under the bay and quite a bit of it through Richmond,
Oakland and SF is underground.
Its not nearly as complete as East coast Subways, but it is something.
Earthquakes just don't go well with rapidly moving underground trains.
