[HoE] tunnels

there is a persistent urban legend here in PA.  don't know if the rest of you
would have run across it.  When the PA turnpike was being put through, several
local tunnels were cut off, as it were.  Supposedly, they were filled with
various supplies in case of invasion, closed over and then removed from maps.
The proof offered for this is that the government still(theoretically) has
open contracts for jeep parts.  And why else you would need these except.....
Well, thought this would be an interesting concept even if it's not true.  An
opinion from my husband is that these tunnels, if they exist, would have
either charges already placed or places for charges already built in(a la the
cold war-era bridges in Europe) to blow the tunnels and keep the enemy from
getting the supplies.  Could have potential for creating a limited time for
the posse to get the supplies, prevent the bad guys from doing the same, etc.
