[HoE] A Templar's Betrayal
I run Friday sessions of HoE while one of my players runs Deadlands on
Thursday and so far it has worked out great.
For my HoE campaign, I set up a town in NE Arizona with plans to run
the first adventure listed on the webpage. The posse drove into Winslow,
Az. and found a town built in what was once a medium-sized town. The
locals had set up their housing in the old mall with a nearby Amoco station
that served as a saloon. There was also a church named St. Wehrenburg's
Catholic church and if any of you have been to the movies since 1906, you
know what this building used to be.
The posse interupted a town meeting where the mayor was trying to get
up some volunteers to head out into Boise to ask the Templars for help with
his daughter who had "not been herself" for the last two months. Poor
twelve year old Penny had some sort of sickness and a Doomsayer who had
tried to help by the name of Artemis had mysteriously died while
investigating the cause of her illness. The posse, (a Doomsayer and a
Templar) decided to take a look at the little girl for themselves. She
spooked them good and their quote after the scene was, "Oh yeah. She's
possessed." Think Excorcist here.
It turned out that there was also a Templar in town that hung around
in the renovated bank that now served as the sheriff's office and jail. He
had been in town only a couple of months when the posse had arrived. The
Templar, Damon Kerrigan, turned out to be a bit high-falutin' and didn't
trouble himself with the townsfolk's problems. He constantly wore
sunglasses and a red bandanna around his head. I won't say what the
sunglasses hide but the red bandanna covers what appears to be a
large-sized bullet hole.
That night, Penny ran away into the desert during the commotion of
some Scavs that attacked the general store in hopes of getting some
goodies. The posse behaved like heroes and the posse Templar more or less
has found the general store's owner's son to have the makings of a Squire.
The posse set off into the desert to find Penny along with Squire Boy and
the Templar who for some reason wanted to come as well.
(insert The Shape of Things to Come adventure here)
During the climactic battle, the posse was betrayed by the Town
Templar. He ended up dying by a nasty blast from the Doomsayer after
seriously scaring the posse. Later they couldn't find his body. He had
suffered a Maim to the Guts. Later, he had crawled away. Seems like this
guy was acually a Harrowed Templar, or a Dark Templar, if you will. The
posse is currently hot on his trail in southern Colorado where he has been
using a couple of red-headed twin girls to scrye on the posse. The posse
has been warned that he has left something for them in the town they are
now in.
(to be continued if anyone wants to know their fates)
