Not that I ever want to get into an argument over temporal mechanics, but it really depends on how
you define time travel.  I've seen it done well with either assumption.  I loved the Back to the
Future movies (though they lost a bit with the stuff that was cut out), and how history changed.  On
the other hand, as a GM, I also enjoy changing one thing in a timeline, and extrapolating all the
changes in that future from there.  Again, I have to recommend the game Time Lords for a good guide
to doing this.
Since Time travel /is/ still in the realm of Science Fiction, I think discussing how it really works
is beyond the capacity of this list.  However, we can certainly share ideas on what would be an
interesting way to work it...
