The adventure that I wrote for PEG for GC was set in the Colorado Rockies, and
was in a forested area in the eastern foothills.  I think that it really all
depends on what you want your setting to be--if you want "Mad Max" desert, set
in in thedesert SW (like "The Shape of Things A Comin'), if you want swamps
set it in Baton Rouge (see the upcoming adventure set Come Hell and High Water
by John Goff).  
I personally have always thought that the no water in the world settings were
a little too far off mark.  Look for the movie "The Ravagers" if you can find
it for a good look at a PA setting.
