RE: [DL] Too old to game?
My brother-in-law and I are big proponents of "Role-playing for Education"
and he runs a game for his 9 year-old daughter. Role-playing promotes
imagination, but reading and comprehension as well as social interaction are
a must. Mathematics and problem solving are also a gaming staple. If you
really want to hit some more educational points running an historically
accurate game may do it but a fantasy setting keeps her interest more. And
the first game we played a year ago she played a fairy in a Shrek-style
world. YCAST is organization in the Bay Area of California promoting
"Role-playing for Education" that pays GMs to run game for them and has
after-school programs for kids. There web site is www.youth4cast.org and
I've meet with these guys on a couple of occasions (mostly local cons) and
love the program (They don't reach far enough south for me to be able to
help out, Yet!).

No problems with it here.? My little girl made up her first character as a
"Deadlands Princess".? Daddy was more than a little surprised however when
creating the character she pulled all 4 aces and both jokers.? To boot there
was not a d4 in the bunch and d6's all were in the 4's.? A character anyone
would be proud of... with the exception of having to be a princess that is.
