Hi, John!

A couple of quick thoughts:

1) Have everyone avoid your gunslinger -- after all, they don't want to get 
involved in the crossfire or revenge once he gets killed by the bad man.

2) A good way to have him learn about the harrowed is to have him haunted 
by the spirit of the now dead hired gun, who can't pass on until his final 
task is completed.

3) Really want to freak him out? Have him help a Shaman or Taoist/Buddhist, 
who blesses him with the ability to see spirits.  He sees the ghost of the 
gunslinger reliving his death time and again, asking how he can fulfill his 
duty.  Then have him see the Harrowed as the undead monster he is (while 
everyone else sees him normally).  Perhaps the Harrowed can tell he knows.

Anyway, three quick thoughts.  I hope they help.
