That looks to be a fairly good definition.
Depending upon where you live though, "new fangled" is still in use, though decreasing in use due to the effects of television upon dialects.
When I was growing up in Nebraska 20 odd years ago the common usage of "new fangled" was to describe a device. This was generally not a positive term. It indicated that the device created to do a job was overly complicated, urban, and lacking in common sense in its approach to the problem it was designed to solve.
Hmmm,
sounds much like the description of "mad science" now doesn't it?
