But that is so done to death.  How about instead, the English/French "trophy
hunter" is unwittingly gathering all the horrors for someone else?  I mean,
if I were an evil master mind, I wouldn't flaunt it--I'd be either the
'servile' butler that subtlely encourages the moron lord to do my bidding,
or else even better, be a green grocer or some such that with some very
subtle suggestions here and there, whisper the idea of doing the Big Bad to
someone that says, "hey, great idea!" who then makes a public announcement
of some sort that THEN brings in the moron English/French lord.  Degrees of
separation help keep the bad guy alive.  Plus, what better horror than to
see the PCs plug the lord, thinking he's the Big Bad, then finding out when
he dies, he isn't.  Oops.
