RE: [DL] Exorcisms

Well, rp'ing the high points of the ceremony is one thing but letting the player grandstand for an inordinate amount of time is another. If the player's expecting the other players to stand by watching him show off most of the game session then maybe you should have a chat with the player in question. Ideally every player at the table should receive an equal amount of "screen" time otherwise feelings are likely to be hurt. True there are some people who prefer to play the role of wallflower but these are the exception not the rule. My advice is to devote a few minutes of game time to vivid viceral descriptions, make the requisite rolls, and go from there. Just remember, eight hours is a long time, plenty of time for the demon's compadres to muster their strength and march on the posse's position.

Hope this helps.

<The exorcism takes 8 hours to accomplish and at the end of the long ordeal the blessed must beat the possessing demon in a test of the blessed's faith versus the creatures Spirit.>

I guess I shoulda been a bit more clear on this - he wants to roleplay the 8-hour long ritual. He wants the atmosphere of the movie The Exorcist. He wants to feel the dread of the onlookers as he may or may not succeed. He wants a more traditional exorcism. He's a guy playing an Irish nun named for the patron saint of death. He wants more than the miracle version of an exorcism, he wants a first-person account of it.
