Colt & open frame style percussion pistols:
Can not be speed loaded with extra cylinders, period.  The open frame percussion pistols had to be taken apart, that is the barrel has to be removed with a screwdriver, for the cylinder to be changed.  This probably cannot be done in under 60 seconds under the best of conditions.  IMHO Do not allow changing of cylinders in combat with these weapons.

I shoot these pistols, and have for about 25 years.  You are mistaken.  My Griswald and Greer, al Colt from the south, has this arrangement and you DO NOT need a screwdriver to disassemble it.  Yes, there is a set screw over the retaining spring on the pin, but it does not lock it in, you use it to set the tension on the spring so you can have the holding power you need.  You can tap it our with the heal of my hand.

Speed loading one like this does not take that long.  One action to remove the barrel, one action to remove the cylinder, one action to put in the new one, one action to reattach the barrel.  Speed-loading skill could be used to get it down to 2 actions if the old cylinder were allowed to fall to the ground.  I know it sounds fast, but in speed-shooting contests (which I never won, too slow) i could change out the cylinder in under 5 seconds.  Some there did it in under 3 seconds.  I know it sounds fast, but it is really done.

This is from my own experiences, not some book.
