Hi,
    As far as sources of early 20th century horror goes, I am reminded of a
collection of horror stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle.  I don't recall
the title but just look for non-Sherlock Holmes Doyle short stories.  You
could also do worse than to look at some of H.G. Wells.
