Howdy,!

Heh, I did quite a bit of research when one of my
former players wanted to play Billy the Kid.
There's alot of different info out there on the
history of Billy the Kid. Apparently, record-keeping
wasn't the greatest at that time.

It's said that Billy the Kid was born William H.
Bonney.  Apparently, his brother had the McCarty name,
but he was born of a different father.  Other sources
say he was born Henry McCarty and others say William
Henry and a few others say William Bonney.

Eventually, he ended up using the name William H.
Bonney.  SO, to end it all... his mother had at one
time the McCarty name (got remarried and became
Catherine McCarty-Atrim), but whether Billy had it, I
haven't been able to prove.


Fortunately, the person playing Billy the Kid dropped
out of the game.  The way I had it going, the game was
taking place before the Lincoln Co. Wars and before
Bonney became "Billy the Kid."  The way I was going
with it, the Lincoln Co. Wars won't even occur and
Billy the Kid will never become the famed outlaw that
we all know.
That's the last time I let someone do something like
that, though...  This guy checked out ONE book from a
library and took it as gospel on how Billy the Kid
really was.  He was a stickler for playing the
character EXACTLY how the book said he was and whined
that he didn't have enough during character creation
to make an "authentic" Billy the Kid.  
I told him to pack sand.  I'm glad he isn't playing
anymore...

If anyone remembers, it's the same guy who was
convinced that you couldn't fan a double action Colt
Revolver BECAUSE it didn't have a hammer.  He wouldn't
accept my argument on how it couldn't be done
because... well, because it's a double action
revolver.
