yes this is true.  One of the funniest instances where I have seen this 
in action was at a Living History event in upstate NY.  There was a 
group of fellas portraying the Texas Brigade.  Almost to the man they 
had a really heavy Bostonian accent.  Although it is kinda like the 20th 
Maine gents that end what the say with Ya'all.
