I never could figure out if you add Legend Chips with a new chip and just
mark it with an L or whatever or use a white chip already in the chip pool
and write an L on it and drop it back in...any advice?

If you're asking how to make a legend chip, there's been plenty of fine
suggestions thus far.

If, however, you're asking whether a legend chip is in addition to the
normal chip pool, or replaces a white chip, the legend chip is *added* to
the pool. IOW, including one legend chip, the fate pot should have 50
whites, 25 reds, 10 blues, and 1 legend chip.
