Yup. All of that kind of stuff draws is built on the hidden bedrock of
the reckoning for the most part. (OK, Sykers kind of do an end-run
around things).
While superficially similar, Weird Wars is a different style of
supernatural horrror in my mind. Deadlands characters commonly have a
'hook' into understanding the supernatural, which makes for a more
fantastic edge. Learning even enough to be equivalent to a beginning
Deadlands huckster would probably require a high-level character who
has seen a lot and been around. The feel is different... A lot of
deadlands characters have already been touched by the hideous things
that should not be and will walk smiling into their den, while the WW
characters are more likely to at least want to say 'Hell no' and need
to be dragged into things.
I guess it comes down to inspiration. Deadlands draws from Westerns,
while WW is World War II (and soon, other wars). Keep in mind the
diffference between movies about the Civil War and movies about the
West that may be set in the same time, but have a very different feel.
Then add zombies. Gotta have zombies.
