Re: [DL] Yarn for a posse of two / NPC Posse members
Spoiler Space, Marshals Only
I've always found that the best way to get players
into Deadlands is through a gunfight contest (A la
Quick and the Dead). It not only gets them used to the
system, but it allows them to meet each other
naturally. It's also doubly suitable for a small
group. Just make sure the contests aren't to the
death.
I've done 2 of these now. The first was an annual
contest arranged by the towns harrowed sherrif. He
would sacrifice the winner at the Indian Burial Ground
which would automatically mean they came back harrowed
with the Manitou in control. The second was similar,
this time south of the border with a town run by Zoro
the local bandit.(I nicked a lot from Drango Kill for
it <eg>) Every month he'd hold a gunfight over 2 days.
During the night before the second day (When there
were only the talented gunfighters left) his men would
break into the contestants rooms, knock out the
contestants and carry them off to the aztec temple in
the mountain behind the town. There the contestants
would be crucified until they died. Dieing in this
manner guaranteed that they returned harrowed with
full dominion to the manitous. Several days later a
caravan would arrive and the harrowed would loaded
onboard and sent off to Santa Ana & his undead army.
