Re: [DL] International Gaming
Well I can't speak for much of Australia but from my personal (and somewhat
limited) experience I've found Australians will try any RPG as long as it is
different! Really that is why LARP would be popular, it is different to
everything else, though I cannot confess to having come across it myself.
Case in point to trying different things, the group I am with has played D&D
2nd and 3rd, Shadowrun, are currently playing bothe Weird West and Hell on
Earth and are looking to play in the near future Conspiracy X, Vampire and a
little game called Continuum. Looking around at stores that stock RPGs it is
really obvious that people try anything down under, My favourite stockist
easily has over 50 different RPGs available. However Deadlands isn't as
widespread as other games (the White Wolf ones spring to mind) but it's
market is quite a loyal one.
One thing I though I might point out with D&D is that while it is common
here in Oz, it is always made different somehow. One group is a group of
Planeswalkers, another play exclusively Oriental Adventures while others
truly are bizarre (Like one group that has a Solar, an Elder Vampire Lord, a
Mithril Dragon (don't ask) and a sentient Admantine Golem).
Australia I think is really a meltin-pot games wise. My personal opinion
(warning- it's biased) is that Deadlands is quite popular because it is
often on back-order and is well supported by stockists.
Still that is only my (better than most world markets) Australian 2 cents.
