Re: [DL] WoTC review of Deadland d20....
Been there, read it, got ticked off, realized there was no point, moved on.
He does seem to have kinda missed the point of the game. Of course, he
*admits* not having played Deadlands prior to this, and I somehow doubt he's
played more than one game of the d20 version. Yes, gunfighters are lethal.
That's the *point*. Yes, guns take a while to reload. Yes, magic is
dangerous to use. These are *also* the point.
Personally, my group plays Deadlands Classic, coz it's what we started
with and the flavor fits the game. I bought the d20 version both out of
curiousity and to shove a bit more green at a company I really like. If I
were in the designer's chair, I would have made a few decisions differently,
but considering the timeframe around it's release I can understand why PEG
didn't move the d20 innovation bar as far as they could have. still, there's
ideas there that I'm using in my d20 homebrew quest for perfection. Now that
CoC d20 is out and doing well, I think classless/high lethality d20 games
will become more acceptable to the market at large.
