That was what Ace did in the movie, but not something I believe the real
John Wesley would have even tried. He simply shot the card which in and of
itself, should be fairly impressive.
I would say the cards negate penalties for called shots with the taint that
the holder gains the reputation, gunfighter. Refer to the film, "They call
me Nobody," for a good look at the disadvantages of this rep.
