When we were steam bunnies back in the engineering lab
days, our most valuable asset were Steam Tables. A
reference work detailing the properties of water in
all her glory at different pressures and temperatures.
With tables in greasy hands we were able to scream
(sometimes literally) through design calculations and
on the fly “will she hold together?” decisions. 

Why not have Ghost Rock tables for the Mad Scientists
in the group? Think of them as Hoyle’s Books for
Scientists. Inside are details and design calculations
for Mad Science. Being that the book makes less than
no sense in the hands of anyone else than a Mad
Scientist it’s not going to give anyone else a leg up
in the bending the rules of nature game. The Ghost
Rock Tables relate the effects of Ghost Rock in all
its nefarious glory in different uses. So a Scientist
attempting to build a new device may consult the
tables and see that they need to use Ghost Rock vapour
at such a pressure within Ghost Steel walls of certain
gauge…. And so on. Some of the donkey work and
experimentation has been done for them already.

For game mechanics perhaps the Tables give the Mad
Scientist a reduction in the time needed for a
blueprint, as the maths part is simplified, and/or a
better draw from the card deck. However, depending on
the origin of the Ghost Rock Tables, certain errors
may have slipped through the vigorous proof reading
department. Take a draw from the card deck once the
device has been built and hope you don’t get a Joker.
High quality Tables (say from S & R or Mr. H) have
fewer errors. Homegrown Tables are more likely to be
death traps in the making. Marshall’s decision.
