This brings up a good point about Mad Science in general.  Hucksters, 
Blessed and Shamans all have hard rules about what they can do.  A Mad 
Scientist is only limited by two things.

1) his imaginiation(which others have brought up)

2) The Marshall.

This is were the problems could develop.  If you Marshall isn't encourageing 
you or constately vetoing your ideas, you have to sit down with him/her and 
talk about what you want to do.

Really it comes down to Mad Science being intentionally less defined.  It 
makes a lot of things a Marshals call and if your he/she isn't that into Mad 
Science, it might be a good idea to play something else.  If you really want 
to play a Mad Scientist, either talk to your Marshal or try a new group.  
You'd be suprised how different characters are favored when deadlands is run 
by different people IMHO.
