[DL] Taunting you with Texan Temptations

Well, it seems that many of us are anxiously awaiting "Lone Stars." So, I
thought I'd post a couple of rangers that could be used as archetypes or
NPC's. The only 'tip of the hat' I was able to make to Mr. McGlothlin's
work was adding in a couple of the new items mentioned on the list. Until
it comes out though, I listed a replacement item in parentheses according to
the current rules.

I hope you at least enjoy and more hopefully can use these characters in
your game.

Background: Captain A.J. "Rabbit" Hardin was a distinguished Confederate
Cavalry officer. He gained his nickname, "Rabbit," in his very first battle
as a lieutenant. Commanded to carry a message to General Lee, Hardin's
horse was almost immediately shot out from under him. Undeterred, he ran
across the entire length of the battle field to deliver his message. When
he arrived, Lee himself commented that the lieutenant, "ran like a spooked
rabbit." The name stuck.

Eventually, Hardin came face to face with the horrors of the west when his
entire unit was wiped out by the walking dead. He only survived due to the
bravery and sacrifice of the unit's black cook. When a Ranger arrived to
clean up the problem, Hardin asked to join up.

Today, he fights the Reckoners wherever they raise their ugly heads. He
still has nightmares about his unit being wiped out, but it does help to
keep him on edge when he sleeps. Given the man who saved his life, he is
also very pro-black and can't stand people who treat them as lessers. He
smokes a pipe whenever he is relaxing or needs to think through a problem.
Hardin also has few friends in the Confederate military that he can call on
in time of need.

Equipment: Ranger Bible, Bowie Survival knife (Bowie knife),
Double-barreled lever-action shotgun (see below), 50 rounds each of shot and

kit, and several wads of chewing tobacco.

			Damage	ROF RI Ammo Rel
L-A-D-B Shotgun 2-6D6 2 10 4/4 19

Looking like two lever-action shotguns welded together, this weapon is
actually slightly more complex. By pressing a button under the barrels, the
shooter can choose to reload either one or both chambers with one action of
the lever. The default is both chambers though if levering the action
one-handed.

Background: Gus Merriweather ain't no "mad scientist!" He's just a tobacco
chewin', good ol' boy that happens to have a knack for gadgets. He ain't
never had no use for them stuffed shirt types, all book learnin' and no
common sense. When the Texas Rangers were looking for new weapon proposals,
Gus decided to show them "perfessers" up. Apparently, the Rangers were
impressed enough with Gus and his double-barreled lever-action shotgun they
asked him to join up. Either that or they just wanted to keep an eye on
him.

Quote: <sound of tobacco juice splattering> "I figger you boys got enough
grave dirt on y'all that a little tobaccy juice ain't gonna matter. Hell,
ain't nothin' gonna matter to ya in a little bit." <sound of lever action
cocking>

Spoiler space for Marshals!

Any player that passes this point will get tobaccy juice spit on him or
her!!!

Malfunctions for L-A-D-B Shotgun

Minor The trigger gets stuck after firing the first shot. It takes one
action and a Fair (5) Strength roll to unstuck it.

Major The trigger gets unseated, firing off both barrels simultaneously at
the firer's first target. It takes an Incredible (11) tinkerin' roll to fix
the trigger.

Catastrophic	Bad seal! The shell backfires, hitting the firer for full
damage. Add +4 to the roll for hit location. It takes an Incredible (11)
tinkerin' roll to repair the shotgun.
