Well, off hand, I would like to point out that there is a grain of truth to
the statement as in the Real World the deck was truly stacked against the
South. The North had far greater resources in everything with the exception
of great generals (and the Union might have picked up Lee.) It takes a
significant amount of tweaking reality such as occurs in Deadlands to get
the South into a position of relative equality against the North.
I must admit, I've always felt that Deadlands ignores just how
potentially important Britain was in the Civil War. Britain could have
tipped the balance of power one way or the other. However, the British were
very reluctant to get involved in a major conflict and so stayed on the
sidelines. However, in the world of Deadlands, Britain seems to be doing
very little for the South especially with it's Navy. There is no mention of
the Royal Navy bombarding New York or Boston. ;-)
