[DL] Hitting multiple targets

Hi folks,

imagine the following hostage-situation: Bad Guy is outnumbered and grabs an innocent bystander to use her as shield. We all know this scenario from numerous movies and tv-shows.

Now one of the heroes, who's this real mean, tough 'uphold-the-law-by-breaking-the-law' type hasn't got a clear shot at the bad guy - so he shoots the hostage in the shoulder.

Under which circumstances would it be possible to hit the guy holding the hostage with the same bullet? how much damage would the bad guy take?
