At the moment, D20 deadlands is something of a novelty here in Maryland,
from what I've seen. most of the buyers are already Deadlands players
who want to see 'how the rules work' without any set intention of
playing them.
I haven't picked up a set yet (I'm concentrating on setting books for
where I'm sending my posse to next... Looking at a 'world tour' forcing
them to leave their home in Kansas and travel to Lost Angels, Washington
DC, New Orleans, and some undecided Wendigo-infested part of Canada.
(BTW, do any sourcebooks cover the great White North better than the
sketchy notes in The Quick and The Dead? I think I remember hearing one
was planned, but I don't know if that project got delayed and/or
scrapped.)
In general, no one seems thrilled with the rules base from what i've
heard, but a lot of that may be third-hand without actually having seen
the rules. I've heard that the card uses may have been removed. While I
can see tis for initiative and character creation, it seems a bit
overkill to do so for spellcasting... however I haven't read the d20
rules, so I can't confirm this!
Oh, and due to the overlap between my Deadlands posse and the store's
Werewolf game, I'm tormenting the players with using Under a Harrowed
Moon to port over some Garou.
Scares'em about as much as when I bought Night Train.
