Well, it all depends on where the cowpoke (no pun intended) is. Sure, in an 
urban setting it might be a hindrance, but in places where women were 
scarce, like a logging camp or a cattle drive, homosexuality was somewhat 
commonplace (like prison, but less violent). Check out Paradox Press's (DC 
Comics) "Big Book of the Weird Wild West" for info on this and other 
interesting topics.
