I know little firsthand of that area, but it looks like you'd have to cut 
northwest, bypass the Laramie Mountains, and...cut through the Rockies? 
Maybe at a pass. I'm staring at an atlas now, so I have no clue how right 
this is.

As for the idea...that's golden.
