Quick and dirty:
Roll the same number of dice as the player and 
subtract your roll from his. d4s for level 1 armor, 
d6s for level 2, d8s for level 3 etc..
This aint very fair for the players since a single 
level of armor would only drop thier die type by two 
sides and your starting with 4 sided dice. So dont 
take aces and it should adverage out close enough, if 
it dont thats what marshall screens are for.
