No, sorry but the smaller the gauge, the more pellets which are in each
shell.  The gauge is based on the number of balls the diameter of the barrel
which weighs 1 lb (If I remember correctly)  Thus smaller numbers are larger
diameter barrels.

In modern times, you can also get more shot by using larger shells, but that
would not be available in Deadlands time.  (ie 2 3/4 ", 3" or 3 1/2 ") Minor
point of trivia. : )
