yes, John Carpenter coproduced and cowrote a western
that was an HBO made-for-cable picture called El
Diablo. It also starred 
Anthony Edwards (ER, Revenge of the Nerds), 
Robert Beltran (Star Trek: Voyager, Night of the
Comet), and 
Louis Gossett Jr. (Roots, Enemy Mine)
