RE: [DL] Harmonica o' Horror
So the point of all this is, can anybody think of something cool for a
harmonical relic to do?
Cody always wished he could sing or play the guitar or the harmonica, like
his friend, Marvin. Marvin could play the harmonica. Cody liked to listen
to him play harmonica, but he always wished HE could play the harmonica like
Marvin. I guess it did kind of bother him how Marvin could play and he
couldn't. Almost like he was mocking him when he played, but no Marvin was
his friend... wasn't he?
Harmonica o' Horror
Powers:
The harmonica allows the player to use his perfomin': harmonica in place of
the ridicule aptitude and gives the performer a +4 bonus to his roll. No
matter what song is played, the notes always sound mocking. The Marshall
may give the player an additional bonus of +2 if the song is of special
importance to the person being ridiculed (ex. Mocking "Dixie" to a loyal
Southerner).
Taint:
The harmonica can never be played without mocking someone, and the urge to
play it grows over time. The day after playing the harmonica, the owner
must make a TN 3 Spirit check to resist playing it. The TN increase by 1
for each additional day until the harmonica is played, and then the TN
resets to 3.
If the player does not specifically intend to affect someone when he plays
the harmonica, the Marshall should randomly choose someone within hearing
distance (or the worst possible person to affect) to be affected by the
music. It would take a persuasion roll opposed to the performin': harmonica
TN to convince the person that the ridicule was not intentional.
If the person uses the harmonica when no one is in hearing distance, they
ridicule themselves. Their confidence is weakened and they suffer a -1
penalty to all rolls until they use the harmonica against someone else. The
penalty is cumulative each time they play the harmonica without an audience.
Well, what do you think, sirs?
