[DL] Latest Session
Session 12 finished yesterday. I had never seen 'The
Mummy Returns'. This session involved a person
connected with the Explorer's Society. It began with
the posse visiting the local chapter, and seeing a
bunch of aztec artifacts on display. After the posse
saw the artifacts they kept chanting, "Oh this is just
like the beginning of The Mummy Returns, someones
going to steal them." Of course that was my plan, so
I was disappointed I had chosen such a transparent
plot. After fighting off the thief (which was a
Nagual) and his undead assistant, they kept saying how
close it was to The Mummy Returns. At this point I
was almost embarrased to mention the undead assistant
was a mummy. They promptly chopped up it's exposed
heart and burned it.
While riding back to the town of Salvation the Mummy
attacked again. This was their first experience with
a 'returnable monster'. They defeated it, and then
chopped off it's hands and feet, taking those items
with them. If the mummy came back it would be
hobbling ... at least that was their idea. When they
got to Salvation they found the feet and hands had
turned to dust. They waited up all night for it to
attack, and fell asleep in the morning (since it had
only attacked at night). Next day around noon, the
mummy with 5 naguals attacked. It was a tough battle,
but they won. Now the mummy corpse is chained up in a
basement and they're awaiting it's awakening.
The beauty is they know how to kill it, or at least
think they know. The reason the mummy is following
them, is they have the aztec artifacts, and amongst
them is a scroll describing the life of the mummy
(note at this point I never said whether it was an
aztec mummy or eqyptian, in reality it's a combo of
the two, with some extras thrown in, it uses most of
the aztec stats, but with the eqyptian weakness, and
the zombie ability was switched with create nagual).
This particular mummy in real life was an eqyptian
searching for a cure for his special lycanthropy. One
of the posse suffers from the same curse. She knows
if she destroys the scroll, the mummy will probably
die, but then not only will the Explorer's Society be
angry at her, but she'll lose her chance to be free.
Of course if she doesn't destroy the scroll, every few
nights he'll return trying to get it back. They've so
far ignored the obvious solution of copying the scroll
and burning the original.
The one thing I'm surprised the posse hasn't clued in
on is that each time the mummy and crew have attacked,
they tried to disable the posse first, and only after
taking a few wounds did they pull their claws out.
They haven't killed anyone yet, even the innocent
bystanders they easily could have killed. Also the
posse hasn't tried talking to the creature yet,
chosing the 'shoot first, ask second' approach. If
they talked to him, they'd find out he wasn't truely
evil, just wanted his stuff back (course, they sort of
already knew that).
Lots of funny OOC lines: After the mummy tagged the
first person with his stun attack (icky blackness
which extended like a tenticle from the mummy's hand
to his victim's chest, numbing where it hit), "Bart
stop using the touch of death on your sister." For
the rest of the night his stun ability was called the
touch of death.
After Sarah, playing the cat person, said she wanted a
romantic interest, I had one of the explorer's come up
to her (OOC) and say, "Hey baby, can I be your
scratching post."
Finally from the Blessed refering to the mummy, "He
can't have his sword back, I stole it fair and
square."
-Munch "I think my greatest joy was watching the
players squirm and call me evil" Wolf
