The different editions of Hoyle's came out of Huckster's & Hexes. Its a table that basically helps determine whether or not a hex can be found in a particular edition or is it has been foolishly "edited" out. As far as I know there is only one edition that gives you any further advantage & that would be the original printing. The HOE Witch is a very condensed & easy version of the witch with much less material to work with and fewer spells listed. I had a HOE Witch player once in a tourney and he was pretty clever about coming up with his own spells & formulae. You know, what is it with players wanting to be all fubar'd? It seems to me not having anything funky and damning in her past or present makes her the MOST unique character of the bunch and the most likely to survive! See, when I started playing, the game was ordinary people against extraordinary odds. Now it seems to have degraded into monsters fighting monsters. Oi veh! I wasn't certain if it was a listserv post, a web site, or a source book (most of mine are loaned out right now). Any information about where I might find this list would be appriciated.
Also, I'm not very familiar with HoE and was wondering what the best source for Witches is. Yes, I know they are different than in deadland, I've read Black Circle.
The thing is one player complained because her character is TOO normal (no mysterious past) and wants me to muck her up some. She's thinking of working for/associating with Black River ...
... of the rest of the party (7 people total), only 4 chose to draw cards instead of using archtypes, and 3 had mysterious backgrounds (one has blackouts ... and will discover the Whatleys were responsible, another drew a cursed relic ... a book that is trying to possess him, and a latecomer drew a doppleganger ... who I decided was the re-occuring villain the posse is scared to face) ...
